How Yourpace picks the difficulty
Every topic — note reading, intervals, rhythm — carries its own level. That level is not a score you earn; it is an estimate of what you can currently handle comfortably. It moves with you, in small steps, in both directions.
Step 1
Measure
Yourpace tracks, per topic, how often you answer correctly and how quickly. Right and fluent counts for more than right after a long hesitation.
Step 2
Choose
The next question comes preferentially from the material you are weakest on, mixed with enough variety to keep the practice from feeling mechanical.
Step 3
Adjust
Once everything at your current level is solid, new material is added. If it keeps going wrong, the level comes back down. Never below where you started.
If you keep missing the same kind of question, an explanation appears with a worked example. You can dismiss it and carry straight on — it never puts your practice on hold.
The zone where you learn fastest
There is a narrow zone just beyond what you can already do. Stay below it and you rehearse what you mastered long ago. Jump above it and you stall. In the zone between the two, learning is at its fastest — and that is where you want as much of your practice time as possible to go.
The catch is that the zone keeps moving. Every time something starts to come easily, the edge has shifted somewhere else. A fixed set of exercises cannot follow that — it is out of date the day it is written.
Yourpace does follow it. Topic by topic, after every question. That is the whole idea behind the platform, and the reason we built it.
Practice time is practice time
There is nothing between two questions. No cutscene, no congratulations screen, no animation to sit through. You answer a question and the next one is there. Not a second of your practice time is lost.
The screen holds only what belongs to the exercise: the stave, the answer buttons, and nothing else.
Your streak and your practice counter are there too, quietly beside the exercise, so you can see how much you have done. They keep counting while you work, but they never interrupt you.

What you practise in Yourpace Music
- Note reading
- Naming notes on the stave, from the middle of the stave out to the ledger lines.
- Intervals
- Hearing and seeing the distance between two notes, starting with seconds.
- Key signatures
- Reading the sharps and flats at the start of the stave; majors first, then minors.
- Circle of fifths
- Putting every key in its place around the circle until it turns by itself.
- Rhythm
- Tapping along with a continuous stream of notation and a metronome — even at first, trickier later.
- Piano
- Scales, arpeggios, sight-reading and repertoire. These need a MIDI piano or keyboard connected to your device.
- Workout
- Rotates through the exercises and finds your weakest topics for you.
